The works includes two new films presented within an immersive sculptural landscape. The films Soft Fruit (filmed in Angus, Scotland) and Jo Kherray So Khaey/ The One that Ploughs has the Right to the Yield (filmed in Punjab, Pakistan), follow migrant seasonal workers, sharecroppers, tenants and day labourers as they pick, prepare and transport cash crops. Plantation explores the nature of work on modern industrial farms driven by the accumulation of profit, extractive processes that exhaust and deplete both land and worker, and an increasingly precarious labour force positioned according to class and caste. Candid conversations and scenes of irruptive, collective gathering appear alongside observational footage in shifting visual formats – from high-definition video to 16mm, and CGI inspired by medieval Islamic cosmography – building a layered sense of time and place. The installation extends this world into a sculptural environment riffing off agricultural structures, such as polytunnels and cooling tents, transforming the gallery into an immersive landscape of light and sound. This open ended collaborative process was commissioned by BEK — Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts – in Feb 2025 and took the form of group meetings, meals, workshops, moving image experiments and collective writing culminating in an expanded screening and live performance with Daiyen Jone Castro as part of The Only Lasting Truth is Change Symposium in Bergen, November 2025. In January 2026, as part of their Pilot Study series, Re-Imagine Europe, with Touki and Rehana, commissioned&nbsp;black feminist writer, researcher and lecturer Lola Olufemi to respond to the collaborative process of Gneiss.&nbsp;In Lola’s text, keywords, rather than linear narratives, speak to the notion of the collective, not as a bounded, fixed group or form of enclosure but as a fluid set of relations. This work began as a series of workshops led through Hibiscus Initiatives framed around questions of criminality, innocence and citizenship, perceived through the lens of gender, race and class. Everything Worthwhile Collective are a group made up of women from South Africa, Ghana, Jamaica, Albania, Nigeria and Iraq who came together around the workshops of the project (2018 - 2023). Through these sessions the technical facets of filmmaking were deconstructed, through theatre games and improvisation, camera and sound recording, storytelling and testimony. Central to this process of congregating has been the sharing of experiences, offering mutual support, advice and tactics to address the interminable limbo of unanswered applications for leave to remain or appeal for asylum, alongside applications for housing or urgent medical care, or the need to reconstruct some semblance of stability after the traumatic impact of detention or a prison sentence. Over the course of the last seven years our ambitions to create a collectively authored film have been held and nurtured through many shared meals, blossoming friendships and periodic trips to the beach. Over the course of this process a polyvocal hybrid film emerged, offering a small glimpse into a group’s attempt to connect and form against punitive contexts that strive to diminish, reduce and disappear. As a precursor toward a future work, this short film offers an embodied mapping of carceral geography, probing the green belt as the terrain through which punitive state technologies both suspend and set time and space in accelerated motion. Sajid’s narration poses questions around the social function of the sexual where western perceptions of Pakistani male sexuality confine liberatory readings of an expansive and emancipatory erotic. Spatial and temporal shifts weave through the storytelling with archive footage of pre-Islamic Indigenous shamanic rituals in the Hunza Valley, Pakistan – a site of both cultural contestation and popular tourist hiking destination, alongside sequences of plant cultivation and conjuring in a green space performed by Priya Jay, writer in communion with Zaman.Your Ecstatic Self transitions between the liminal space of the car, mountainside, or edgeland, where alternative epistemologies and ritual offer possibilities to re-envision and transform. emerges from a nine-month collaboration between Rehana Zaman and Liverpool Black Women Filmmakers, a new women’s film collective made up of young women from British Somali &amp; Pakistani backgrounds. The film documents the group as they work together to create a thriller focusing on a teenager’s attempt to find Jamal, a boy from the neighbourhood who has mysteriously disappeared. Comprised of candid footage captured during the workshop process, behind the scenes filming and archive footage of anti-racist organising in the aftermath of the L8/Toxteth uprisings, the film questions how modes of representation and societal structures are gendered and racialised. The work takes its title from Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictee, a novel that deploys a variety of texts to examine themes of dislocation and fragmentation. Taking Cha’s work as a departure point, the film explores processes of disassembling as constitutive of lived experience. Tell me the story Of all these things attends to the particular experiences of British Muslim women, staging a cookery demonstration alongside candid conversations whilst conjuring the amorphous figure of a woman emerging from a barren landscape – a figure placed at the convergence of terror and desire. 2018, HD Video.
